Charity Quick Tip:

(NC)-All fund raising in the name of cancer is vital to helping to conquer this disease that is estimated to affect 1 out of 3 Canadians during their lifetime. Collectively, our donation dollars will result in progress. Sometimes, however, you can see the results immediately, right before your eyes.

Take a look at the earnest work of Look Good Feel Better, a charitable foundation of the Canadian Cosmetic, Toiletry and Fragrance Association (CCTFA). This non-profit organization helps women to recapture some of the control that they lost as a result of their cancer diagnosis.

"No one will dispute the need for research to find a cure," says 30 year-old, cancer survivor, Erika Heller. "But when you look in the mirror and see someone who doesn't look like you - someone who is obviously very ill - you need something now to help regain confidence and get on with your life. This program, Look Good Feel Better is the key."

Sherry Abbott, the foundation's executive director and a cancer survivor herself agrees. "Since 1992, our free 2-hour workshops have welcomed more than 90,000 women across Canada. By helping a woman with cancer look good, we have seen that there is a good chance that her spirits will be lifted and she'll be able to face her illness with greater courage." Specially trained volunteers work with workshop participants, providing tips on cosmetic hygiene, skin and nail care, creating eyebrows, defining eyes, and how to brighten their overall look with a touch of colour. A special session on hair alternative solutions - including wigs, hats and scarves - is also included.

More information, including workshop locations and how to donate, is available online at www.lookgoodfeelbetter.ca, or toll-free, 1-800-914-5665.
