(NC)-For many Canadians, driving to and from work is a way of life and with Canada's population on the rise, the roads are becoming more congested every day.

In fact in a recent study, three in five Canadians who commute to work each day said that they believed their daily drive time has increased over the past few years.

The good news is that the study also found there are ways to relieve the stress of these long daily drives and 93 per cent of those surveyed agreed that being able to select their own music and entertainment actually helped reduce stress during their daily drive. As well, nearly all of those surveyed thought that great audio entertainment actually made their daily drive seem shorter. According to David Wiesenthal, a psychology professor at York University specializing in driver stress, the more personalized the programming is, the more powerful effect it has on reducing stress while behind the wheel.

"Having the freedom to choose from a variety of entertainment that suits individual interests and tastes has proven to significantly reduce driver stress levels during their daily commute," Wiesenthal said, noting that heightened stress levels attributed to commuting can impact a driver's personal and professional life.
