LOL (Laughing out Loud): Experience the joy of reading this summer

(NC)-Hitting the books this summer doesn't have to be dry or boring. Summer reading can entertain your child while helping improve their literacy skills at the same time. In fact, more and more parents are encouraging their children to join summer reading clubs to help them stay ahead of the curve while enjoying their "scholastic break."

This summer, local libraries across the country will invite children of all ages to participate in reading clubs. To encourage high levels of participation, libraries will use a diverse line-up of techniques such as reading games, group discussions, related crafts, author visits and storytelling sessions.

The TD Summer Reading Club, an award-winning program and joint initiative between Library and Archives Canada, Toronto Public Library and TD Bank Financial Group, saw nearly 2,000 library branches participate in last year's Lost Worlds program. The TD Summer Reading Club helped children read close to two million books last summer.

This year's theme, LOL (Laughing out Loud), is sure to be just as popular with close to 400,000 reading kits consisting of an activity booklet, poster, and collectible stickers being distributed. From June to August, more than 250,000 children are expected to register at their local library and take part in TD Summer Reading Club activities. With each registered child tackling an average of eight books, last year's record could be a thing of the past.

You can obtain more information at your local library or online at www.td-club-td.ca.
