Less Stressful Daily Commutes

Provided By:

(NC)-With all the stresses that come along with a hectic professional and family life, the last thing Canadians need is a chaotic ride to and from work. Unfortunately, this is unavoidable for many commuters. It should therefore come as no surprise that a recent Leger Marketing survey found that more than one in five Canadians classify traffic as Canada's biggest headache.

With the days becoming shorter, the daily commute is set to get even drearier over the next several months. So, here are some tips to help brighten up your time on the road:

1. Try another mode of transport - If you normally drive to work, taking public transit will ensure that traffic no longer drives you crazy. Not only that, it also helps the environment, so you can breathe easier too! For those travelling shorter distances, walking or biking will allow you to exercise your stress away.

2. Leave extra time -Feeling rushed can be a major cause of commuter stress and headaches. Giving yourself extra time will make any traffic delays seem less important.

3. Take care of yourself - When stress and headaches do occur, don't ignore them in the hopes that they will disappear on their own. Keep on hand a fast-acting medication like the gelcap formulation in the Tylenol line which can help to resolve the issue quickly so you don't arrive at home or work with a painful headache.

4. Make car time, fun time - Carpooling with friends or colleagues allows you to chat while on the road and can make the ride more entertaining and less stressful.

5. Plan your playlist - If it's not convenient to travel with colleagues, there are plenty of ways to entertain yourself during the commute. Try planning a playlist of your favourite songs and become the next "Car-adian Idol!" Or, start to listen to recorded books while your drive. Both of these can help you reduce your stress.
