Network Marketing: Are Old School Strategies Dead?Author: Karl Hummel
This is the biggest question being asked in the Network Marketing Industry! Depending on whom you ask, you're very likely to hear a different answer from each person you ask. So what are "Old School Strategies"?
Old school Network Marketing strategies have been taught in the Network Marketing Industry for decades! To build a profitable business, we must have someone to market our products/services, and business opportunity too. These people are known as prospects. Old School Network Marketing techniques teach us that there are two primary ways to find these prospects.
The first is referred to as making a "Warm Market List". In this step, we make a list of everyone we've ever met. We are taught that most people will have a list of about 150-250 people. Because we have at least met these people somewhere before, they comprise our "Warm Market"
The second is "Daily Prospecting". This consists of meeting new people and prospecting every place we go throughout the course of our normal day. They would consist of things like social gatherings, shopping, eating out, going to the movies, and anything else you can think of!
The question is, "Do these techniques work"? And the answer is yes they do. In fact thousands of people have used these techniques to build huge organizations and tremendous incomes. However, there are a few problems with these techniques.
? Trying to recruit people who aren't interested can offend people.
? This can give you a bad reputation amongst family and friends.
? Some people have very small "Warm Market Lists".
? Once you've gone through your "Warm Market List" you only have one option left.
? Many people are extremely uncomfortable trying to prospect total strangers.
Although these methods can work very well for some people, they don't always produce favorable results for others. Imagine starting a traditional business with these methods being the only way to secure customers? You probably wouldn't be very successful!
This is why business location, advertising, and having a visible physical presence, is so important in traditional business models. These things allow people who are actually interested in what you have to offer, to seek you out, as opposed to trying to find each person on your own, one by one.
Many people have found that implementing old school strategies along with more traditional business methods is far less limiting. With the technology available today, it's much easier to leverage ones time, and find the people who are interested in what they have to offer. This is what is now being called "New School Network Marketing Strategies".
In my opinion, although Old School Strategies are not dead, they are somewhat outdated. For this reason, the best strategy may be combining both methods!
By using both methods we are able to utilize every form of marketing and prospecting available. This will not only generate more prospects in the long run, but overall it will generate better quality prospects. This makes building a Network Marketing Business, faster, easier, and much more enjoyable!
