Packing it right - Tips for eBay sellers from Canada Post

Provided By:

(NC)-Now that you've joined the eBay revolution and sold that MP3 player, rare book or fishing tackle, here are a few helpful hints to ensure it arrives in perfect condition.

• Put it in a box… The Canada Post eBay Flat Rate Box gives eBay sellers the simplicity of three flat rates - Regional, National and USA. Anything that fits this sturdy box, up to 5 kg (11lbs), ships. The boxes are free ($1.95 shipping and handling for a bundle of three) and are available to eBay sellers at the online Canada Post eBay store. You can also print your shipping labels there. More information at: www.stores.ebay.ca/canadapostflatratebox.

• If you're re-using a box, ensure there are no markings on the outside that could interfere with delivery (i.e. wording that suggests the contents are flammable). If you need to, wrap the package in heavy-stock paper and seal with packing tape.

• Protect the contents of your box. Bubble wrap, Styrofoam peanuts or popped popcorn work best to ensure your contents are protected. Your items shouldn't move inside the box; a gentle shake is a good test!

• Ensure your label includes the complete, correct address of both parties. Postal codes can be found at canadapost.ca/postalcode. Tip: include both addresses inside the package. If the outside address becomes illegible, postal sleuths will use this information to deliver.

• Use correct postage. Print Canada Post shipping labels from your computer after paying for postage with your PayPal account. With this label, you drop your package at any one of the more than 6,700 post offices across Canada, or in any street letterbox (where size permits). You can track your package through your PayPal or eBay account.
