The season's hottest look: Glowing, springtime skin

(NC)-Spring's sunshine has finally chased away the winter blahs and like most Canadians, you just can't wait to get outside. You might be ready to resurface from winter hibernation, but is your skin? Well-known Toronto makeup artist, Diana Carreiro has some easy tips for some skin spring cleaning.

Fake it 'til you make it. Just because your skin feels like it's recovering from winter, doesn't mean it has to look that way. "A great way to fake a glowing springtime look is to add a lightweight highlighting cream to your daily makeup," suggests Diana. She recommends a soft cream colour if you're fair skinned or a pale golden colour if medium to dark skinned. Simply use your fingers to rub it along your cheekbones, brow bones - anywhere the sun would hit. And don't forget the eyes! Diana suggests using a long-lasting under eye concealer to hide dark circles. To really make eyes pop, try experimenting with plumping mascara.

The basics are your bible. The health of your skin depends on the way you take care of it. "There are basic steps everyone should follow for healthy skin. Cleanse, exfoliate, moisturize and protect," says Diana. Always remove your makeup before bed and avoid drying bar soaps. Opt for a gentle cleanser instead. Exfoliation is the step most people skip. You can exfoliate through microdermabrasion, chemical peels, retinoids or scrubs. And always protect your skin from the sun's UV rays which can cause pre-mature wrinkles, rough skin and dangerous skin disorders. Use a minimum SPF of 15. To avoid the dry skin trap, Diana also suggests using a light daily moisturizer with a hydrating night cream to address fine lines, thinning skin and repair elasticity.

Consider the Liquid Lift. Your regular skin routine may be good for daily care, but sometimes it's just not enough for the long-term. Non-surgical procedures like Botox Cosmetic or facial fillers like Juvéderm are an easy way to soften wrinkles or plump up lost volume. Many people interested in maintaining healthy, youthful and natural-looking skin are opting to use these two products together in a "Liquid Lift." The best part about it? No one will ever notice - it'll look like you just came back from vacation more refreshed. "Many clients ask me about non-surgical procedures, and I always suggest booking a consultation with their doctor to discuss their options," says Diana.
